Taking Inspiration to Organise my Wardrobe…

Just as I was about to write a book club post, I changed my mind last minute. The cause of this, was me watching ‘Tidying up with Marie Kondo’ on Netflix. I wanted to try what she had suggested and thought it would be interesting as I’d already consider myself to be a fairly organised person.

Starting with my wardrobe, there really wasn’t much to do. Since moving during the Summer, I had the biggest clear out of clothes, so everything pictured gets a lot of wear. However what I do like to do, which is maybe a step too far, is put the clothes into colour order. I just think it looks so much more aesthetically pleasing and its just easier if I have in mind the kind of colour I want to wear that day, I can just see straight away my options.

Side note: My wardrobe definitely doesn’t look like this all of the time. Also to put it into perspective, the other wardrobe right next to this is such a mess with coats and dresses. There’s no way that’s ever going to look aesthetically pleasing enough to appear on the blog.

4Since getting into this post I’ve realised the four primary colours in my wardrobe are black, white, mustard and pink. What a weird combination that is…

Anyways, I thought I’d show you the bottom of my wardrobe which is pretty basic. I prefer this area to be as minimalistic as possible because otherwise it can just look really cluttered. So I have my most loved shoes and my gym bag. I guess not the usual look for a gym bag but its the perfect size for what I need it for.

2Moving on to where I really took advice from Marie Kondo and annoyingly I didn’t take a before picture. But her folding technique really works well, I thought I wouldn’t get the hang of it or that I just wouldn’t like it. However, it was easy enough to do and now I can clearly see all of my tops. One thing I’m not sure on, is how long it will stay this way. Although it does seem that it would be difficult to break the pattern and just pile clothes on top, so maybe because of the unique order I’ll naturally have to keep doing it.

3Finally, I remembered to take a before picture and I must say my ‘tops’ drawer was a lot tidier in the before stage. This always ends up in a mess because every time I go to the gym, I feel differently, some days I want my darkest gym clothes to blend in. Other days, I’m feeling more confident and reach for a bolder print. Hence, the drawer ends up in a cluttered state.

1Here’s the after, I really liked the outcome of this drawer and think it will be the easiest to maintain. So I didn’t see the need to stand the leggings up like I had done with the sports bras but I still think it all looks clearly organised.

Overall, I thought Marie Kondo’s views on tidying were really insightful and I’m now tempted to buy her book so that I have something to read further up on. Also, I thought I had done a wardrobe organisation post recently, turns out it was over a year ago! So if you’d like to see how my organising has changed (that sounds SO sad, please don’t go read that) you can here.

Have you watched Tidying Up on Netflix?

Ireland Photography

Last weekend I took a trip to Dublin and I had the BEST time. So I thought I’d share the pictures and let you know what I got up to.

7Firstly, it was a very tiring weekend. We flew at 6 am from Leeds Bradford airport on the Friday (but I had to get up at 1am to get there in time). On the way back, it was a 9 pm flight on the Sunday, so we really did get the whole weekend.

859On the Friday, we were all really tired so we just had a wander around the city.

61On the Saturday, my Mum and I spent the morning at the National Gallery of Ireland. It was beautiful and because we got there early it was quite quiet and the best atmosphere. We could have spent all day there but we wanted to fit more in.

2At this point, we were trying to navigate our way to the castle.

I absolutely loved Ireland and would love to go back. I also realised how much I love weekend getaways. So my Mum and I have already decided for our next trip it should be Amsterdam.

Anyways, as much as I’m still catching up on sleep now I’d happily trade my sleep to be back, everyone was so friendly and we couldn’t have had a better time.

Lots of Love,

Sophie

Early Gift Guide (Sponsored)

I’ve surprised myself this year and I’ve already bought a few Christmas presents for my parents. However I’m not finished, because of this I was open for ideas and inspiration.

So can you imagine how happy I was when UncommonGoods contacted me to collaborate on a post? I love that UncommonGoods have their own definition of ‘sustainability’ and are always striving to incorporate it in the decisions they make. They also haven’t sold products containing leather, fur or feathers.

Amongst the presents I’ve got for my Mum it ranges from skincare, clothing, jewellery (and the odd towel set).

MUM GIFT

I was in need of something different and found this to be just what I was looking for. Its a Mother & Daughter Letter book set, where there’s 40 cards you can ‘send, share and treasure’. I love the idea of this, both my Mum and I are super sentimental people. When I was younger, I used to always write letters to my Mum and now we both write notes to each other before we leave the house and know we won’t see each other much because of work and College.

IMG_4002

I find my Dad the hardest to buy for, maybe because he doesn’t give me a long list like my Mum does (THANKS MUM). So he usually gets the same; pyjamas, a watch and toiletries like shampoo.

TIE DADBut I always try to get him a humorous gift, so when I came across this I knew I had to include it in this post. My Dad is obsessed with my dog and for work he’s always wearing a tie. Could I get a better gift? Probably not, especially since you can choose which dog you want on the tie. I was surprised at the plethora and variations of gifts UncommonGoods has to offer for men in general.

IMG_3993Is this bad I’m including myself in all of this? Obviously, I don’t buy myself Christmas presents, I just decide to treat myself all year round (oops). I just thought I’d highlight how easy it is to buy for someone like me; books; perfume; makeup and you’re sorted.

MY GIFTThere were sooo many temptations when I was scrolling through UncommonGoods and this was just one of them; a Scratch Map. I’ve definitely had my eye on one of these for a few years now. I just find them such a good idea and a great gift.

Overall, I’m pleased with the amount of Christmas gifts I’ve got for my parents already. I’ll be sure to do a full gift guide when I’ve finished my Christmas Shopping. And I’m grateful there’s so many websites, that I can take inspiration from.

Have you started your Christmas shopping yet?

About Me

How I Organise my Wardrobe

A quick read of a post from me this week, (college has been MAJORLY hectic).

I’d consider myself to be a fairly organised/tidy person but when it comes to my wardrobe, it ALWAYS ends up in a mess. So every so often, I have to go through it to put things back on hangers, find appropriate places for my shoes and usually put one or two things away for charity.

Today, was one of those days that I had to tackle the wardrobe and thought I may as well make a post out of it.

IMG_3925I’m ashamed to say this is what it was looking like before I managed to get a hold of it all. In all honesty, don’t be thinking this ends up looking like a whole new wardrobe, I’m not that good of a tidy uperer. (not a word? ok.)

IMG_3924

First thing to do is obviously put your clothes in colour order? It was my first step anyways. I made sure to put all tops together, then jackets and then dressy outfits. Then when they were each in their category, I put them in a bit of a colour order. I know it won’t last, I’m definitely not a Monica from Friends.

IMG_3923Next, it was to tackle the over head bit, I’m sure it has a proper name. Oh wait, its probably just a shelf, nevermind. Anyways, I like to be able to see my shoes and take great pride in my heels I probably only wear once a year. So, I realigned them and got rid of anything on that shelf that wasn’t a shoe.

IMG_3922Finally, I had to have a place to put a couple of my favourite bags. Which had to be in the last available space which was on top of my wardrobe. I have to admit, I’m not the fondest of having things on there, but I really don’t have anywhere else to put them.

Where do you store your bags?

About Me

OOTD #7 Prom!

I cannot believe how fast Prom has been and gone. I had such an incredible night. But what I also can’t believe is that the last time I did an outfit of the day was back in February. I did want to do a bit more than just show you my dress for Prom, so I’m going to explain the preparations I did for the night itself and how my day panned out.

8:30 am- I woke up, I was feeling pretty chilled throughout the day and I surprised myself by waking up with no nerves. I do apologise for this no makeup face but I tried to take pictures at certain points during the day for this post.

11:45am- I went to get my hair done. I honestly go to the best hairdresser. I’ve known her for 10 years now and I couldn’t have been happier with my hair. I did only want something simple and this is what it looked like…

ootd prom 9

1:30pm – I realised I really needed to sort out what clutch bag I was taking and add the usual tissues,  money, the ticket to get in and whatever lipstick I was wearing.

This little yellow packet is what was on our table by our seats, it was filled with sweets inside.

ootd prom 4

2:30 pm – I began moisturising with the Soap & Glory Deluxe Righteous Butter Cream. I love the scent of this and it gave a pretty glow to my skin.

ootd prom 2

3pm- I started to put my makeup on. I did start quite early but I didn’t want to rush to make sure it was as perfect as I could get it. I am doing a whole other post for my makeup on Prom day so that will be up on Wednesday.

5pm- My Mum helped me with the last few bits, adding jewellery and actually putting on the dress.

ootd prom 10

5:30pm- Time for PROM! I got some pictures taken and then I went round a friends house before heading to the venue.

ootd prom 5

It was so hard not being able to give Alfie a kiss, he just had to watch from the window…

My makeup lasted really well. This picture was after, after prom party. I would do another outfit post for that but I just wore jeans and a crop top.

OOTD Prom(Got to love them Snapchat filters that hide 1 am under eye bags…)

Hope you enjoyed this blog post. I have waited so long to do this so I’m so excited the time finally came around. I am so nervous for tomorrow when I have college taster day and again on Tuesday. Anyways, don’t forget to like, comment and follow.

Poland 2015

Can you believe Polands been and gone?! I cannot. It was such an amazing trip and I made some really great friends. For some reason, coming home it just put the people in my life I was unsure about into perspective and now I couldn’t really care for them. Anyways I managed to get it down to only 20 pictures, how I don’t know, but as promised, enjoy…
